Mahtab was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, in 2006. Upon completion of the Bar Vocational Course she joined a leading International Group P&I Club where she was involved in every category of wet and dry shipping disputes. Representing Ship Owners and Charterers from across the Eastern syndicate, particularly the Middle-East and Indian sub-continent teams, Mahtab took charge of a range of cases from contentious charter party disputes (on a variety of different forms), to non-contentious offshore contract work; major collision incidents; collisions with FFOs and cargo claims of all nature including rice, sugar and steel.

Mahtab qualified as a Solicitor in 2009 and was admitted on the roll in January 2010 when she joined another City practice specialising in maritime law; whilst there she handled arbitrations concerning a variety of charter party and cargo disputes; High Court litigation involving various applications including an anti-suit injunction for an international trade dispute and a rig seizure dispute. Working for a part-time arbitrator, Mahtab was also involved in researching and drafting for arbitration awards.

Mahtab obtained the CISI Islamic Finance Qualification in June 2011 having studied all aspects of sharia compliant investments (including Sukuk), project-financing, insurance (takaful) and re-insurance (re-takaful).

She is also studying on a distance learning basis with SOAS University for an MSc in Finance and Financial law. Mahtab joined Elborne Mitchell in June 2011 within the shipping and international trade group where building upon her previous experiences and knowledge of the Islamic finance and insurance sector, she is engaged in all aspects of shipping disputes and associated commodities disputes, with a particular emphasis on Middle Eastern and Asian trade.

If Mahtab has any time left over at the end of the week she enjoys keeping fit and active by going to the gym, running, boxing and shopping (excessively – ensuring her wallet also gets a good work out!!).
