Tim Akeroyd is a partner specialising in Insurance and Reinsurance.
Tim qualified as a solicitor in 1971 when he joined the newly-established Elborne Mitchell, becoming a partner 18 months later. Tim's practice covers all aspects of reinsurance, insurance and related professional indemnity work and he has recently been conducting a series of high-profile reinsurance disputes relating to the PA market.
In addition Tim's practice covers defence of classification societies and he is presently involved in the loss of the Prestige and also acted in the re-opened Public Inquiry into the loss of the Derbyshire.
Previously he headed the team instructed by the professional indemnity insurers of Lloyd's Underwriting Agents, conducting the defence of members' agents in the leading Lloyd's Names actions Gooda Walker, Feltrim, Wellington, Bromley and King.
Tim has been involved in a considerable number of key insurance and reinsurance cases over the years, including Insurance Company of Africa v SCOR, The Salem, Bedford v IRB, Phoenix v Halvanon, Youell v Bland Welch (the Superhulls dispute), Simner v New India and Petrofina v Magnaload.
Tim is also an accomplished horse rider.
